70's child? LOL

IF you were a little girl in the 70's...
I myself don't remember much of the 70's but I do remember the late 70's early 80's. So here we go:

You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked. (yes)

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it. (YES for my 9th bday I got a pink and white one and named it Sugarfoot LOL)

You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheel s. (yep and the ball bearings fascinated me)

You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!) (no)

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island . (no)

You had either a 'bowl cut' or 'pixie', not to mention the 'Dorothy Hamill'. People sometimes thought you were a boy. ( I had a longish version of it :)

You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days. (moon boots yes lol)

YEAH! You owned a 'Slip-n-Slide', on which you injured yourself on a sprinkler head more than once. (nope)

You owned 'Klick-Klacks' and smacked yourself in the face more than once ! (what are those?)

Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized posse ssion. (I had a stuffed Holly Hobbie)

You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers. (nope)

You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon. (nope)

You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits, or the sun shine family (ahhh no!)

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.(yep lol but I was very uncoordinated)

You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. (Oh yeah!) (nope)

You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals. (no)

You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Oleson! (umm I still do LOL)

You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink! (no I was very uncoordinated and almost broke my wrist skating in 6th grade.)

PONG! ('video tennis' ) was the most remarkable futuristic game you've ever heard of !(my cousin had Atari, we played ET and collected REeces Pieces!)

Your hairstyle was described as having 'wings' or 'feathers' and you kept it 'pretty' with the comb you kept in your back pocket. When you walked, the 'wings' flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna 'take off' . (no it was 80's before my hair became an issue..lots of teasing and hairspray)

You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie. (I love vintage SS.)

You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic.(nope )

You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend. (yes and in 1st grade the cutest boy was Lee Skaggs, he had beauuuutiful feathered hair like Bo Duke!.)

You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.. (I did that but later in the 80's)

You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat. (no but I used to love reading them)

You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books. (Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.) (yep)

A meme and an update

Well here it is humpday again :) I like Wednesdays, I am off on Wed. usually. Its midweek so no real pressure for the start of a week or the weekend. So whats new with you? Me? Well lets do a list shall we? In all its oddness...

• The kids went for yearly physicals yesterday. I paid Lovey $5 to get a shot without fighting the nurse LOL and it was the best $5 I have ever spent. I was very proud of him he overcame a major major fear yesterday :)
• The Dollar Tree next to my work went out of business. Here is the sign (somewhat) that they put up: STORE CLOSED, PLEASE VISIT OUR ___ LOCATION, THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATRIOTISM. um, ok. PATRONAGE maybe?! LOL cracked me up.
• I've actually been sewing! Working on some tiny patchwork blocks, made a new freezer rice thingie, love that when I have a migraine.
  
• Our weather has been UNREAL its so nice, mid-80's, low to no humidity etc.
• School starts a week from today. Praise the Lord.
• I am starting a diet today. Too many self indulgent days leads to melzie having more headaches and being cranky.
• I am very excited to be back to sewing again!
• I am very excited school is starting!

Let's see 10 years ago it was 1998. I was a newly married mom, went from my two boys to also mother'ing my stepson. Went from being on my own and being my total boss to a mix that included sharing all that with another person, it was a hard first year for all of us :) Worth the work of course.

My to do list just for this morning before I have to leave early for work at 9am.
1. sweep and mop my kitchen
2. finish at least two loads of laundry
3. fold the 7 loads sitting in baskets
4. make the 5 phone calls I have written down
5. hope I have some time to sip my coffee and read some Psalms

Survey for a real life cause, not just a fun meme lol

Boomama is doing a survey on her blog, and I first emailed her my answers privately then I thought what the hey lets feed my inner ego more (LOL) so I will answer here too. If you decide to participate, let HER know via her blog and let me know so I can read your answers too ;) ok here goes.

1. What part of blogging brings you the most joy and satisfaction? Relationships? Having an outlet for writing? Reading? Commenting? Building your traffic? Something else?

To be really really honest I love that it sort of feeds my ego and validates ME. (wow that sounds so shallow LOL) But just knowing that the deeper me I share thru the anonymity of the WWW is still sorta likable, even when I'm not putting on my 'public face'

2. What is the most frustrating part of blogging for you?

Feeling a need to post to perform.

3. If you had to give someone one piece of advice about blogging, what would it be?

Make it personal. Don't try to perform. I was a very unsatisfied unfulfilled blogger when I tried to mold my blog around the blogs I loved, but what I loved about them were they were a TRUE reflection of that person, not a trick dog show.

4. What do you know about blogging now that you WISH you had known when you started your blog?

5. What draws you to the blogs you read regularly? What elevates a blog to “daily read” status?

The blogs I read daily are the ones that make me laugh first of all, and the ones that I think I would just love to sit down and have coffee with that person and laugh until I cried. Or cry until I was ugly. Or pray and worship. You know-ones I feel a real personal connection with and honestly believe could carry over into real life. In a not stalker not scary way ;) LOL

Wow that means I have to actually POST! Aunt Jenny (too lazy for links today) tagged for the 7 weird things meme and I had a nice bullet'ed post all done up and blogger ate it. Curses to you blogger! So I'll jump in and try to remember my original weird 7...of course there are MANY MANY more to choose from so here we go ;)

1. I ADORE buying new paper products AND office/school supplies. LOVE it.
2. Number 2, yes THAT number 2. I have to go number 2 every single time I go to certain places. Hancock fabrics, clear the way. Goodwill store, watch out! Library, hooo boy. My mom works at Hancocks and she said LOTS of people actually say that they have to go number 2 everytime they come in. First off..lets take up a collection and buy some charmin people. That John Wayne TP is for the birds (rough, tough and dont take no crap off nobody? SORRY couldnt resist LOLOLOLOL). Personally I think its a comfort thing. Nothing makes me happier than fabric, bargains and books. I actually was in an email loop one time where someone got mad at me and said I was "unladylike" because I poo in public. Hey..you asked for weird!
3. Hmm what to top #2? LOL I like things very very squared. Off set stuff makes me twitchy.
4. I like even numbers, I like yin and yang, balance.
5. ::tapping fingers thinking:: I'm turning into a neat freak as of late. Organizing every room in the house. I love it :)
6. I cant go to sleep at night til everyone else is in bed and everything is off. I also canNOT sleep w/out a fan running.
7. I still cant decide what I want to be when I "grow up". I am 33 yrs old, way past time to decide.

1. I am unhealthy and out of shape, and I am trying to get to a mental & emotional place to be able to do that. But food is MUCH more than food to me, and until my comfort is found else where I have no willpower. I hope I am not one of those people who has to get a health scare for a wake up call :(
2. But I am an EXCELLENT baker LOL. And food is tied to love for me, like when I want to do something nice for my kiddos I bake for them...see...issues.
3. I want to go back to school. What I really want is to get a criminal justice degree and go into law enforcement but I second guess that constantly and honestly will probably not muster enough courage to go for that, and do some easier like library science or elementary education. Not that Im really THAT great with kids, but I'd like to do something secondary like librarian, or reading resource or whatever. I am also a word/grammar/book nut so it would fit :)
4. Hmm this is kinda hard...ok. I've got a very nice sewing room set up and its doing nothing but collecting dust bunnies. I've sewn 1.5 quilts all year since Jan. I think I am just paralyzed by insecurity. I need therapy.
5. I am utterly fascinated by all things 70's and early 80's retro. They say you cant go back but man I yardsale in hopes you can LOL.
6. I will not buy hardly ANYTHING brand new or full priced. I am almost rabid about bargains and sales.
7. Reality tv..how do I love thee? Let me count the ways! Survivor, Amazing Race, American Idol, Supernanny, Wife Swap, Biggest Loser, etc etc etc. What the heck happened to fear factor?!

Bren thought it would be interesting for me to do this personality profile, the only part I really dont agree with is the "surrounded by friends" part. I find the older I get the more antisocial I am...a flaw? I think not LOL. I enjoy it! So Bren here are my results!
