Welcome to my little corner of blogland! This is the only sane spot I can come in my crazy life! :) Here I share my sometimes funny sometimes NOT-day to day insanity I call my life, along with my sweet wooly hubby & all our boys :)

MY THRIFTY QUILT SHOW PURCHASES :)

Some nice fq's for $1

a 07/08 purse calender

And this is neat, its to make a lil mini quilt as seen here. Finished is 15"x15" of LOOK SUSAN the boats :) It was half price.

Ok now let me vent. I do the majority of my fabric shopping at Hancocks. And they have occasional classes but mostly advanced type. We do have a local quilt shop, The Sewing Basket. It has tons of classes BUT they are so unfriendly :( The lady selling the FQ's and mini quilt kit thingie was the owner or head teacher or something. WELL I enquired (again) about classes and sigh so so unfriendly. Is it because I am younger than the majority of the crowd there? Is it because I dont look lucrative enough to afford it? Danny said its because I am young I was like helllllllo people dont START quilting when they are 50! :( Oh well at least I still have bloggy friends LOL

I just don't understand stores like that. My LQS was that way at one time. Now they have a new manager. She is so nice and their business is picking up too.

Love the little Nantucket quilt...Great find.

Yup, we still have our internet friends. Glad we are both in the Quilting 4 Pleasure ring.

Some people just aren't friendly - quilters & quilt shop owners included...

Or they just don't "click" with you...

Or they take a while to warm up...

There are quite a few quilt shops in my area so if one style wise or friendliness wise doesn't fit you go to another. With that said, there is one shop that I like fine, but I know a couple of people who do not like to shop there...

I think we are kinda, sorta, neighbors! I am close to Paducah. I have been quilting for 26 years and I still find myself uncomfortable in some types of quilt shops. Keep looking around and you'll eventually find the right one for you!

Yesterday I saw a quilter's calculator at Hobby Lobby. It looked kind of neat and it would take the big-ol'-headache out of figuring out yardage for quilts!

i have one LQS that's 4 minutes away from home. The rare times i have been in there the two owners are never friendly or helpful. And i've heard others say the same thing.
Another quilt shop which is 15 minutes away has the most friendly owner and i have taken all my classes there. I hadn't seen her in the store for over 2 years. But last week i was in there and she still remembered my name and we had a bit of chat. Unfortunately she is selling the business and i know there will be many people who will miss her. By the way, it's the most popular store in the city by far.

sorry to hear the LQS is so unfriendly :-( I had the opposite experience- I have been ignored by customers in the store where I used to work- even firs time quilters- because clearly I was too young to be able to help them. sigh.

Hooray for your thrifty purchases!

I fully understand the unfriendliness thing. Maybe they thought they were being efficient, or they were just tuckered out from getting ready for the show, or maybe they just had a fight with a previous customer. Or maybe they just are shy. Sorry, just trying to see it from their point of view. I think that for a class, the friendliness wouldn't matter as their skill level and their ability to impart their knowledge on me.

Hey! I see you found some sailboats! =)

Thanks for sharing the pics of the quilt show, including the one with your husband in it. He has to know that the show made you happy, and when you're happy, he's bound to be better off. =)

You found some great buys! Some people are just not very polite, Mel. They don't realize they are driving business away - it's just their nature.

So sorry you had a bad experience in a quilt shop. I just don't get it. But like the others said, keep looking, because you will find one that LOVE you and you'll want to return. I love it when the younger generation is getting into quilting-we need to do all we can to encourage them! And you are right--you have your blogger friends and we don't care how old you are! :)

I will be your quilty blog friend who is even younger and gets even worse looks.

I'm having trouble finding some quilters in my age group (middle aged!) Most of the groups are made up of 'older' ladies who only want to talk about their health, and any 'young' group is made up of young things that only want to talk about their small children. I'm in the middle. Lucky I have my blog friends.
